I heart (love) Blogs--6.4.2010

I've never really understood the fascination with blogs. The newspaper biz scoffed at them when they started taking off about 5-6 years ago (or was it longer ago than that?).

There are blogs for everything. Some are by by rip off artists (reposters) who blatantly violated copyright law by stealing materials that reporters worked hard to create. Others by fringe "crazies" who used them as platform for their off-the-deep-end rants. Of course there are odds and ends blogs by everyday folks as an open diary or journal of things in their lives, or blogs used as a tool to try and sell things.

Of course, once papers saw how wildly blogs were, we then jumped on the bandwagon and started blogs of our own. Some of them were good, but most lacked the personal tone and intimacy that makes a blog worth reading.

So I wasn't really into them. Until this adoption stuff came up. And now I'm completely addicted. I love reading about the ins and outs of other people's lives, how they are coping with their challenges, and making decisions about creating their families. Some bring me to tears, and others make me step back and ask myself difficult questions. I like seeing similarities between myself and women (usually the bloggers I read are women) I have never met from all over the world. It makes me feel less alone in this journey.

My blog list has grown really long already. I spend hours trolling through posts from dozens of blogs that I follow. And the best part is that every blogger usually has a list of blogs that THEY like to follow, so my list continues to multiply.

Here's some of my fave posts I stumbled across this week. Hope you check them out!

  1. Hi!

I've been "following" you for a few weeks now! I'm also in the process of adopting from Korea and love all of the blogs out there related to both infertility and adoption. They have really helped me to understand that I am not alone AND I have learned a lot about both processes along the way.

Best of luck to you as you continue to navigate the path to your child. All I can tell you is that the journey will take you in numerous directions and twist you upside down at some points, but keep your eye on the prize!

  2. I am so with you girl. My husband always says that I am constantly on the computer. I tell him it's a hobby. He likes to read books and I like to read blogs. That kind of keeps him quiet for awhile..lol. I love to hear others peoples thoughts and stories!

  4. Right there with you! I dropped out of the blogging thing when we arrived home with Lily but now I am addicted. The best is when all three kids are home running around, the house is a mess and what am I doing?? BLOGGING!!

  5. Hey Jennifer! So happy you are here and commenting. Thanks! You are right about learning a ton from the blogs too. The stuff you get from the blogs is like the stuff you and your girlfriends talk about...the "real" scoop vs. the official stuff you get from textbooks, agencies, etc.
